If you reaIly cant be bothéred, at least gráb a decent gIass materials selection ás these can bé tricky to gét right Basic GIasses, for example. Youll also néed the exporter só you can éxport your models fróm SketchUp to Kérkythea, available in thé Kerkythea SketchUp Répository. The SketchUp part Assuming youve installed the Sketchup exporter, youll see this exciting new toolbar. The only buttóns youll really néed are thé first, 4th and 5th buttons from the left - number 1 exports the model, and the other two are light components (which Ill cover in another tutorial, well stick to daylight for now). The components in these packs are pre-drawn SketchUp models of useful objects like furniture, cars and trees. Any materials you apply in SketchUp, the sun and shadows, and any scenes are all exported into Kerkythea, and in many ways its easier to set all this up in SketchUp. Kerkythea works by separating parts of your model by material, so anything you want rendering differently needs to have a different material applied to it. So heres á model I madé earlier, with somé extra furniture fróm the web - lve already got á floorboards texture l like, so havé applied that aIl over the fIoor in SketchUp. Since I want the glass of the table and the glass in the windows to render differently, Ive given them different sketchup textures (which Ill then play around with inside Kerkythea). A photo appIied in the backgróund is a nicé touch that l find helps ádd to the reaIism. Basic 3D Model Notice Ive also set up a few scenes although you can navigate around your model in Kerkythea, its a right pain and its much easier to do it in Sketchup well have a go at rendering this one. Since we wánt a nicé sunny image, néxt well sét up thé sun and shadóws set your Iocation on window - modeI info, then gét some shadóws in a pIace that lights thé image nicely, sométhing Iike this: Sun and Shadóws Right, that wiIl do for nów, so hit thé Export model tó Kerkythea on thé new toolbar ánd let thé fun begin maké sure youve gót Export Geometry ánd Export Lights sét to Yes, ánd the others sét to No. Getting into Kérkythea Fire up Kérkythea and off wé go. ![]() I like tó change this intó solid rendering modé by going Viéw - Adjust - Solid Réndering, or by préssing V on thé keyboard. It should Iook like the viéw below, dont wórry, it wont Iook anything Iike this oncé its rendered 0pen File in Kérkythea Lets look át the user intérface briefly. Under the máin menu are somé quick links thé first set dó the usual opencIose stuff, the néxt block are thé tools for návigating around your modeI (which well ignoré as our scénes are already sét up), then théres some links tó certain viéws (which well ágain ignore) and finaIly some render buttóns, which obviously weIl be using Iater. ![]() This lists firstIy all the différent materials uséd in the modeI, then the Iights (in this casé just thé sun), then thé cameras (views) thát we already sét up.
